Come to Edinburgh: Capital city of Scotland
Edinburgh is a city of wanderlust. It’s Scotland’s beating heart and Europe’s ‘Capital of Cool’. It’s the birthplace of people, ideas and inventions that have shaped the future.
It’s been voted the UK’s Top City at the Guardian Travel Awards for 13 consecutive years. It’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the host of the world’s largest annual arts festival.
It’s a world influencer in science, business, education, medicine, finance and the arts. Its creative sector is varied, robust and fast-growing.
It’s got more Michelin-starred restaurants than any other Scottish city. It’s got less rain than Rome (apparently!)
Experience the quirky charm of Irn-Bru (a unique orange soda), haggis (the national dish), and bagpipes (our contribution to noise-induced hearing loss).
With a major focus on human healthcare the city leads the way in many areas including regenerative medicine, bioinformatics and cancer treatment to name but a few.
Life sciences have been at the core of Scotland’s academic success for centuries. From the early days of surgery, the discovery of penicillin, making the link between mosquitoes and malaria, to the invention of the MRI scanner - Scotland is the home of world-leading research and invention in human healthcare, animal and plant sciences, aquaculture, agritech and industrial biotechnology.
